§ 01How-to
How do I convert a video to audio?
Three steps, no software to install. Works in desktop and mobile browsers, and your file stays on your device the whole time.
- Save the sound from a short video
- Turn a performance recording into audio
- Turn an online class recording into MP3
- Get the audio, then make a backing track
Choose a video
Click the box above, or drag in an MP4, MOV or other video. On a phone, you can pick straight from your photo library.
Pick format and quality
Choose MP3 for small files, WAV or FLAC to keep full quality, and M4A for Apple devices.
Extract and download
Takes a few seconds to under a minute. Listen on the page first, then download when you're happy.
§ 02FAQ
Q1Is my file uploaded to a server?
No. Extraction happens in your browser, and neither the video nor the audio passes through our servers. Your file is uploaded only if you click "Make a backing track" and confirm on the next page.
Q2Does it cost anything? Is there a usage limit?
It's free, with no login and no usage limits. Videos up to 2 GB and audio up to 500 MB are supported; very large files depend on your device's memory, so on a phone we suggest one file at a time.
Q3Will the extracted audio lose quality?
WAV and FLAC add no further compression. MP3 and M4A are compressed formats — choose a higher quality setting (like 320 kbps) and you'll hardly hear a difference in everyday listening.
Q4Does it work on phones? In WeChat?
Yes. Open this page in your phone's browser and pick a video from your photo library. In WeChat you can process and preview too, but WeChat can't save files, so tap "···" in the top-right corner and open it in your browser first.
Q5Can it separate the vocals and the backing track in a video?
This free tool only extracts the audio. To remove the vocals and make a backing track, click "Make a backing track" when it's done, and preview 25 seconds for free before deciding.
