§ 01How-to

How do I change the key or speed of a song online?

Choose a song and tap “+” or “−” a few times to change the key; speed is set separately, and the two don't affect each other. Preview a short section first, then export the whole song.

  • Shift a backing track to a key you're comfortable singing in
  • Slow down a song to learn it or transcribe it
  • Lower a few semitones for a man singing a woman's song
  • Speed up music for dance or workouts
  1. Choose a song

Click the box above or drag in MP3, WAV, FLAC, M4A or other audio; sound from videos works directly too.

  2. Set pitch and speed

Change the key with “+” / “−” or a common preset, and adjust the speed if needed; tap “Preview” to compare the original and adjusted versions. Not sure of the original key? Tap “Detect original key” for a reference.

  3. Export and download

Pick a format and quality and export. The file name gets a tag like “up2” or “1.1x”, so your original isn't overwritten.

§ 02FAQ
Q1Does changing the key change the song's speed?
No. Pitch and speed are handled separately: changing only the key keeps the length the same, changing only the speed keeps the pitch the same, and you can change both together.
Q2How many semitones should I shift up or down?
In karaoke apps, each semitone step counts as one key (+1/−1). Men singing women's songs usually go down a few semitones, and women singing men's songs usually go up a few; the exact amount varies from person to person, so trust the preview. If you're not sure of the original key, tap “Detect original key” for a reference: it's estimated automatically and may differ from what's written on the sheet music.
Q3Does changing the key lower the sound quality?
The bigger the key change, the more the tone changes. Up to 3 semitones usually sounds natural; beyond 7 semitones, or at speeds under 0.75× or over 1.5×, the sound may get thin with a slight echo, and drum hits may double up. Preview first; exporting as WAV or FLAC avoids an extra round of compression.
Q4Can I change only the speed, not the key?
Yes. Leave the pitch on “Original key” and adjust only the speed: 0.5× to 2×, with 0.75, 0.9, 1.1 and 1.25× one tap away. Slowing down makes the audio longer, so the file gets bigger too.
Q5Are files uploaded? Do I need to log in?
Nothing is uploaded — processing happens entirely in your browser. Log in to use it free with no usage limits; up to 20 minutes of audio at a time.
