§ 01How-to

How do I make a phone ringtone from a song?

Done in three steps, no software to install. Works for iPhone and Android, and your file stays on your device the whole time.

  • Use a chorus as your call ringtone
  • Custom ringtone for iPhone
  • MP3 ringtone for Android
  • Wake up to part of a song
  1. Choose a song

Click the box above, or drag in an MP3, M4A, FLAC or other song — sound from videos works too.

  2. Pick your phone, clip a section

Choose iPhone or Android, then drag the handles on either side of the waveform to select the chorus. The selection is kept within 30 seconds for iPhone and 60 for Android, with fades added by default — you can preview first.

  3. Create it, set it as your ringtone

iPhone gets an .m4r file, Android gets an .mp3. After downloading, follow the steps on the page to set it as your ringtone.

§ 02FAQ
Q1How do I set a custom ringtone on iPhone?
iOS 26 and later: download the .m4r in Safari, open it from Downloads in the Files app, and tap Share → Use as Ringtone. Earlier versions: install Apple's free GarageBand, import the file, and export it with Share → Ringtone. Or use a computer: drag the .m4r to your iPhone in Finder on a Mac, or in iTunes on Windows.
Q2Why are iPhone ringtones limited to 30 seconds?
All current ways to set audio as an iPhone ringtone (the Files app, GarageBand, syncing from a computer) cap it at 30 seconds — anything longer is cut off or won't transfer. So for iPhone, the selection is kept within 30 seconds (with 0.2 seconds left for encoder padding). Android itself has no limit; we cap it at 60 seconds, as calls rarely ring longer.
Q3How do I set an MP3 as my ringtone on Android?
After downloading the MP3, long-press it in your file manager and choose "Set as ringtone"; or go to Settings → Sounds & vibration → Ringtone and pick it under "On this device" or "Custom". Menu names vary slightly between brands like Xiaomi, Huawei, OPPO and vivo.
Q4What is the M4R format?
M4R is iPhone's ringtone format. It holds AAC audio and has the same structure as M4A — only the extension differs. We create it at AAC 256 kbps (mono songs are encoded by your browser at a somewhat lower bitrate, and the actual bitrate is shown afterwards) and check the file structure after creating it; Android simply uses MP3 at 320 kbps.
Q5Are files uploaded? Does it work in WeChat?
Nothing is uploaded: it's free after you log in, with no usage limits, and the ringtone is made entirely in your browser. In WeChat you can create and preview it, but WeChat can't save files — tap "···" in the top-right corner and open it in your browser first (Safari recommended on iPhone).
